hCG Diet Questions
Human chorionic gonadotropin is a naturally occurring hormone. It is created during pregnancy, and allows the fetus to gain nutrients from the mother's fat stores without depleting her muscles and bones. It is also an FDA approved fertility drug.
When the body takes in a significantly lower number of calories than it burns, the body will go into "starvation mode." It is the body's natural reaction to horde as many nutrients as possible, since it doesn't know when calories intake will exceed output again. This causes the body to store as much fat as it can, while burning muscle and bone for energy. The medication, when used in conjunction with a very low calorie diet (VLCD), allows the body to obtain additional nutrients from the dieter's fat stores, while protecting the dieter's bones and muscles.
The most effective way to receive a dosage of hCG is through injection. There are other options, such as taking the dosage under the tongue (sublingual).
Typically, the hCG diet plan is done in either 23 or 43 day cycles. However, some people find longer rounds are possible, while others may need only a short round to lose "those last pounds."
Just like any weight loss plan, if you go back to the old habits that caused you to gain the weight in the first place, you'll be disappointed. However, when following the protocol correctly, your body will reset the hypothalamus, allowing your post diet metabolism to be much greater than it was prior to the diet.
The best place to inject hCG is into fatty tissue. Since most people self inject, the thigh and tummy are the most common places on the body to inject. Your injections will be with a needle designed for insulin injections for diabetics, which is very short and small. The typical injection will feel like a quick pinch. The hCG protocols indicate injections should be done six days in a row, with one day a week as a rest day to help prevent immunity.
hCG is a legal drug, and has been approved by the FDA. Many athletic organizations, however, have banned the use of hCG as it is often used to boost testosterone production by athletes who are coming off a round of steroids.
While these products do not have calories, they are artificial sugar additives that impact your body's blood sugar levels. This can slow or prevent weight loss. Stevia, on the other hand, is all natural, and does not impact the body's glycemic index. While Stevia is considered the best alternative, it is still recommended to be used in moderation, as some people are still affected by this product.
There are no "cheat days" on the hCG diet plans. By deviating from the protocol, the body will need AT LEAST three days to recognize "starvation mode" again. In the meantime, the body will horde as many of the calories as you give it.
B-12 injections are often taken in conjunction with the hCG diet plan to help protect the liver while it is metabolizing a higher amount of fat than usual. It also increases energy. Please consult your physician for any other medical advice.
It is highly recommended that you use oil-free products while on hCG, as oils commonly found in lotions, shampoos, body washes, deodorants, make-up and other health/beauty products can be absorbed by the skin, reducing the effectiveness of the hCG diet plan.
HCG is safe for men. It can be used by doctors to help increase testosterone in men with fertility issues. When used with the hCG diet plans, men can expect to lose between 1 and 1.25 pounds a day!
